When it comes to overall health, physical fitness plays a significant role.  Exercise does a body good.  Fitness is defined by condition of being fit and healthy.  Although, Pilates is the core of our studio we believe these 5 factors must be incorporated into your workout routine.

Cardiovascular Strength

Aerobic fitness is the body’s intake of oxygen.  The body will take it through your lungs, heart and veins and transfer to all the tissue in the body.  Is part of fitness challenges and build endurance in your heart and lungs.  It is also a major part in weight loss.  Taking one of our spin classes or a Reformer Jumpboard classes are great ways to get the heart pumping.

Muscle Endurance

Muscle endurance is a specific muscle group’s ability to contract and hold the resistance.  The “hundred” in Pilates or a plank are perfect examples.  These moves develop your core to hold a steady position and build strength.  Reformer Levels 1-3 and a Mat Pilates Class will build your endurance.

Muscular Strength

While muscular endurance refers to how long you build a specific muscle group to be fatigue-resistant, muscle strength is how a muscle or muscle group can lift a specific weight.  This also includes how many repetitions you can do.  Boards, Bands, and Balls, TRX, and our TruFit Weight Training classes will help you build muscle.

Flexibility

Flexibility is your range of motion around your joints.  It is so important to continually work on this.  These joints will carry you through your lifetime of mobility, balance and dexterity.  Pilates Reformer/Stick/Barrel and Tower and More will build your flexibility while getting a good workout.

Body Configuration

Body configuration is the ratio of fat composition, or your body's ratio of fat mass to fat-free mass.  Fat-free mass includes your muscles, internal organs, bone water, and all your connective tissue.  Fat mass is the yellow gunk we are trying to lose.

This is all about balance of working out and a healthy diet.  The more you move the more you lose not just around your belly but around your organs.  Consistency on the previous 4 factors will help you improve your ratio.

Pilates is our passion, but we believe to achieve a well-rounded fitness regimen you need to take other classes to confuse the muscle groups.  We integrate Joseph Pilates’ 6 Principals into all our classes.

  1. Centering
  2. Concentration
  3. Control
  4. Precision
  5. Breath
  6. Flow

Pilates will be your foundation to work on your “core,” or centering of the body.  The core consists of the deep abdominal muscles along with the muscles closest to the spine. Control of the core is achieved by integrating the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle, or your “powerhouse.”

It is a mind-body workout or concentration. By focusing on proper breathing techniques, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, and concentration on smooth, flowing movement, you become acutely in tune with your body. You learn how to control its movement.

You will gain control, long, lean muscles and work on flexibility. More traditional workouts are weight bearing and tend to build short, bulky muscles - the type most prone to injury. Pilates elongates and strengthens, improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured. It focuses on the quality of movement over repetitions.  We control our instructor to client ratio for you to have maximum attention and correction from our instructors.  Each exercise is designed with completer muscular control.  They are deliberate movements designed for mind control.

We want you to move efficiently or with precision.  Pilates exercises train several muscle groups at once in smooth, continuous movements. By developing proper technique, you can re-train your body to move in safer, more precise patterns of motion - invaluable for injury recovery, sports performance, good posture and optimal health.

Coordination of your breath with movement was Joseph Pilates’ 5th principal.  Inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth allows the lungs to pump air fully in and out of your body. This also allows us to bring attention and intention back to the movement of the exercises.

Flowing from one exercise to another is the way a Pilates class is done.  The energy of an exercise connects all body parts and flows through the body in an even way.

The Pilates principles may sound a bit abstract, but the integration of these principles accounts for the balance, grace, and ease that one can experience because of practicing Pilates.

TruFit Pilates is rooted in Strength, Balance, and Unity. These three words represent the three points on the triangle and the triangle is the strongest geometrical shape.

Strength is more than physical, its personal. Focusing on a healthy physical core will bring strength to the mental one. Balance is the fine art everyone continually works on. We want to be the support you need to balance time for yourself and for your family. Unity is the state of being made one. I want anyone who walks into our studio to feel accepted, and I want you, my clients, to feel at home.

These three ideas equally balance themselves on the triangle. Pilates, is a unique exercise, establishing a continuous flow of movement from one exercise to another initiating from the core. As the strongest geometrical shape, it also represents our “core.”  The heart and soul of Pilates and our studio.
